Individualized Parent Coaching

Program Information

Work one on one with a parent coach to help you meet your goals for yourself and your child. Parent coaches work with you weekly or bi-weekly over a short or long term period to help you, manage challenging situations in your daily lives (e.g., dangerous behaviours, toilet training, etc.), connect and play with your child, and teach your child important skills.

Our parent coaches have additional training and mentorship in parent coaching. Our parent coaching approaches are individualized  include:

  • Early Start Denver Model parent coaching
  • Autism Navigator Early Social Interaction (ESI) Model for early childhood coaching
  • The Balance Program: a collaborative approach to addressing emerging problem behaviour for young children (FTF Behavioral / Dr. Kelsey Ruppel)
  • Help is in Your Hands / C-ESDM
  • RUBI Parent Training

Short term parent coaching: 4 sessions

  • Session 1: gather information and learn about parent and child goals
  • Session 2: finalize and start implementing a plan
  • Session 3: carry on with implementation support, review how it’s going and troubleshoot
  • Session 4: would be to assess progress and make any modifications as needed.

Long term parent coaching: 3-4 months of support

Flexible support to meet your needs, and the coach can help suggest specific areas of focus following the first initial session. Some options for what longer term coaching can address include:

  • Identifying and teaching specific goals at home (for UP clients, may involve transferring in-clinic goals home)
  • Learning and implementing comprehensive support strategies
  • Balance parent coaching for managing challenging behaviours
  • Specialized strategies from shown to be effective in improving skill development of young autistic children using evidence-based coaching programs
