Program Information

The UP Parent and Toddler Playgroup is a parent-participation, social engagement program for children ages 1-3 years. This program provides support for families who have concerns about their child’s development, or are noticing a child is showing developmental delays.

Our trained instructors support you through specialized strategies shown to be effective for for children with social communication difficulties. These quality play activities and experiences can support your child’s learning and development in a fun, caring, and social environment. Parents will learn how to implement relevant strategies and will leave each playgroup session with activity ideas to enhance these developmental play skills at home. 

Program Structure

Small group format with up to 5 children with caregiver participation. If an additional caregiver would like to attend, they can watch from our observation area and/or swap in to support their child. 

Spring Session: April 1st – June 7th(8 classes)

  • Saturdays 10:00-11:00
    • Classes occur on April 5th, 12th, 26th, May 3rd, 10th, 31st and June 7th
    • NO CLASSES on April 19th (Easter weekend), and May 17th (Victoria day weekend)
  • Tuesdays, 10:00-11:00
    • Classes occur on April 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, May 6th, 13th, 20th

Payment

  • $330.00 for 8 class session
  • 25% sibling discount for 2nd child registered
  • If families have Autism funding available, this can be used to pay for the program. We must receive a completed request to pay form prior to the class start date. 
  • A reduced rate is available for those who want to participate but are not able to due to financial constraints; please contact us for supported registration

Benefits of Parent and Toddler Playgroup

Social Opportunities: learners in our early start playgroup benefit from learning in a social context, with our expert staff available to support social interaction. That way, we are able to support social development in a group context with effective strategies, and help parents learn strategies that can help when you are out and about in the community.

Learn simple strategies: learn effective, yet simple strategies from our caring staff that are shown to be helpful for learners with social communication difficulties. These strategies can help you with support your child with transitions, play skills, joint attention, communication and language development.

Extend your learning home: The benefit of learning in our parent and toddler playgroup is that you can then create careful teaching opportunities within activities that you are already doing at home. Research shows that parent involvement in early intervention improves outcomes for children.
